The Whooville
Chickens
In the winter of 2008, we rescued some chickens that had been left
behind at a nearby homestead.
In the spring, we decided to order some more. One of our hens
was broody, so we let her sit on
three eggs for a week. The evening the new chicks arrived, we
slipped all 27 under her and removed
the eggs. Momma hen surpassed all our expectations
and raised them to adulthood. She once
again rose to the occasion in the spring of 2009 and raised 20 chicks all by herself.

In addition to enjoying the eggs,
we sell and barter eggs and chickens
with neighbors.
